GONE FISHING…

GONE FISHING…

Emphasizes the vital role of family in finding stability during times of uncertainty and chaos. Here, family figures are portrayed through the creatures seen fishing into “portals” or fishbowl-looking spaces. These fish bowls—which are cluttered with peculiar beings represent the eeriness and loneliness of a disarranged mind. When the mind becomes filled with anxiety, doubt and insecurity, clarity is lost. Amidst each portal is a red-orange looking entity embodying the “self.”

Within the upper left portal the entity has grown completely closed off to the idea of transcending its current state of mind. Having become completely absorbed in its skewed reality, the red figure’s (family figure no. 1) effort to fish it out and expose it to new viewpoints fail.

Hovering above the second portal, a green and red polka dotted figure (family figure no. 2) makes a fresh attempt to liberate the starfish entity from the dangers of its own mind. Though its attempt also ends in failure, the starfish entity seems increasingly receptive to rescue, suggesting that it has reached an understanding that there might be a different way of looking at things.

Success is reached within the third and final portal, where the third figure (family figure no.3) manages to hook the entity. As the hooked starfish transitions into a more simplistic and neutrally colored landscape, the theme of optimism is felt. There is always a way out of a toxic mindset, and a possibility of transcending into a state of peace. Occasionally, it requires being welcoming of different points of view than those which come naturally. Remaining open is what leads to happiness and serenity.
